U.S. News & World Report today released the 2016 edition of Best Colleges today to help domestic and international students compare the academic quality of U.S.-based schools.  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology appears in the second tier of National Liberal Arts Colleges.  Schools that appear in the second tier are not ranked but are listed alphabetically. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/harrisburg-university-of-science-and-technology-39483

There are three tiers in the annual rankings which include data on nearly 1,800 colleges and features rankings of 1,376 schools. The U.S. News rankings focus on academic excellence, with schools ranked on up to 16 measures of academic quality. The rankings emphasize outcomes, with graduation and retention rates carrying the most weight in the methodology at 30 percent.

The University also tied at 203 in a ranking from guidance counselors on what colleges and universities counselors feel offers the best undergraduate education to students (  http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-liberal-arts-colleges/high-school-counselor/page+9).  The guidance counselors were from a nationwide sampling of public high schools in the U.S. News rankings that were gold, silver or bronze medal winners, as well as from the largest private independent schools nationwide, to tell U.S. News which National Universities and National Liberal Arts Colleges offer the best undergraduate education to students. The guidance counselors rated the universities on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the top score). The three most recent years of survey results, from spring 2013, spring 2014 and spring 2015, were averaged to compute the high school counselor reputation score used in this ranking.

In June, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology made the “Short List” at U.S. News for its success placing students in internships.   The University ranked #3 in a U.S. News’ Short List“10 Colleges With the Highest Internship Rates.” The University has a 100 percent success rate and HU is the only college in Pennsylvania to appear in the Top 10 of the ranking.

The college ranking categories are based upon the 2010 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifications. The Carnegie classification system has been used by U.S. News since the first Best Colleges rankings in 1983, because they are accepted as the basis for classifying schools by most higher education researchers.
