HU Student honored with Outstanding Chemistry Major award
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology would like to congratulate Hannah Tucci, a dual major at HU who recently was awarded Outstanding Chemistry Major by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Section of the American Chemical Society.
Each year, a student from each university and college within the Southeastern Pennsylvania region is nominated for the award on behalf of the society. Hannah, a third-year student, was chosen as HU’s recipient this year. Among having her name placed among the best aspiring undergraduate chemists in the region, Hannah received a commemorative certificate and a copy of the Merck Index (a leading chemistry reference manual).
“Hannah is unique as a dual Forensics and Chemistry major at Harrisburg University,” said Chemistry Professor Dr. Catherine Santai. “She has taken on a tremendous challenge academically and has impressed faculty continually in both disciplines. She is a very hard working and conscientious student.”
“The Chemistry faculty at HU (Drs. Jackson, Nagy, and Santai) are pleased to select Hannah Tucci as the recipient of the Southeastern PA Section of the American Chemical Society Outstanding Chemistry Major Award for Harrisburg University for 2018,” Dr. Santai continued. “We have no doubt that she will continue to make Harrisburg University proud.”
Hannah said she is proud to receive the award from those she admires and that the honor has helped her confirm the choice she has made for her future.
“This award means more to me than words can say. To be honored by individuals that I admire and respect so immensely is more reassuring than anything I have experienced,” she said. “Like many students, I have been worried that I made the wrong choice for my future, or that I was unremarkable in my academic career. However, this award has shown me that my worries were fear, not fact.”
