Harrisburg University Excels in College Factual’s 2019 Ethnic Diversity Rankings
The college and career search website College Factual has released its 2019 rankings for ethnic diversity. Harrisburg University of Science and Technology excelled in these rankings that recognize colleges whose student body represents a broad range of races.
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is ranked #5 out of 139 colleges in the state of Pennsylvania for ethnic diversity. This puts Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in the top 5% of all colleges in the state. The private non-profit STEM university is ranked #283 out of 2,486 colleges and universities analyzed for ethnic diversity. This puts HU in the top 15% of all schools in the country.
The percentages of women and minority students and faculty are well above national averages. Fifty-two percent of undergrads are women compared with an 18-percent national average in science and technology programs. Women make up 28 percent of graduate students, 14 percent higher than the STEM average. Forty-five percent of HU’s undergraduates are African-American, compared with 7.6 percent among STEM students nationally. Twenty-six percent of the faculty are minority, exceeding the national average by about 13 percent.

The schools with the most diversity when it comes to student ethnicity, geographic location (including international students), and gender come to the top of this ranking. The online publication’s primary source of diversity information is enrollment data from the IPEDS “EFA” dataset. This is data reported by colleges to the Department of Education.
