Students find inspiration at STEM Girls on the Hill event

The STEM Girls on the Hill event took place at HU and the State Capitol Tuesday.
Sponsored by STEM-UP Network, the PA Million Women Mentors, and state Rep. Patty Kim, the event brings female high school students in central Pennsylvania together with legislators in Harrisburg for a day of awareness building, advocacy, and mentoring to begin the conversation about the key role of state government in driving the importance of girls and women in STEM.
Thirty students from Harrisburg, Steelton-Highspire, Cumberland Valley, and Mechanicsburg School Districts participated in the event.
Following a welcome and introduction at HU, the day included a tour of the state capitol, observation of the legislature in sessions, a working lunch and panel discussion hosted by Rep. Kim, and a closing discussion at HU.
Its anticipated that this inspiring event will spur a larger state-wide meeting during the fall.
