HU Biotechnology Alum Publishes Study

Congratulations to Steven Tessier , Class of 2016, Biotechnology. His paper titled “A novel mouse model of intervertebral disc degeneration shows altered cell fate and matrix homeostasis,” has been published in the journal of Matrix Biology. The study reports early onset, spontaneous disc degeneration in SM/J mice, which recapitulate many features of human disc degeneration. The idea is to use SM/J mice as a model for investigating the cellular, molecular, and genetic basis of disease pathogenesis, and to test drugs that may halt disease progression or maybe even reverse it. Steven Tessier is in the Master of Biomedical Sciences program at Thomas Jefferson University. He expects to graduate in 2018 and his future plans include attending medical school.
