The certificate program with Harrisburg University can be taken in a full-time, part-time with two options for delivery: all online or Executive (Hybrid- both online and in class format). The Graduate Certificate Program emphasizes experiential learning so that graduates obtain a concrete grasp of real-world project management issues. And, because Harrisburg University is a Registered Education Provider with the Project Management Institute (PMI), the courses taken prepare the student for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification-the most in-demand professional certification in the field.
This Certificate Program is designed for students with a desire to understand both traditional and agile principles and practices of project management with the goal of obtaining an academic Certificate in Project Management from Harrisburg University and an industry certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI), either the Project Management Professional – PMP, or Certified Associate Project Manager – CAPM. The Certificate in Project Management requires all the core Graduate Level Project Management courses (six 3 credit hour courses – non-capstone) required to obtain a Master of Science in Project Management. These core courses when completed successfully apply directly towards a Master of Science in Project Management if at some point the student decides to seek a full Master of Science graduate degree.
In order to complete the Certificate in Project Management at Harrisburg University, a graduate must also complete the necessary requirements for the PMP or CAPM including passing the relevant exam from PMI. The PMP is the de facto standard in industry for Project Managers with over 700,000 professionals having obtained the PMP worldwide. The PMP requires not only the passing of a 4-hour exam but also requires industry experience. The CAPM is not as prevalent as the PMP (30,000 certifications) and requires only the passing of an exam.
With increased use of projects by businesses to develop and implement new products and services, and with the added complexity of project management, the Certificate from Harrisburg University in Project Management exposes students to the inputs, tools & techniques and outputs of managing successful projects. Students who participate in the certificate program will have an integrated understanding of both the knowledge areas and processes groups of the project management process and the application of these concepts to passing CAPM or the PMP certification exams. All academic credits achieved in completion of the Certificate program count towards eventual completion of a Master of Science in Project Management if student desires to continue their studies.
