Feb 16, 2010

Microsoft BizSpark ®, the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)®, and Scrum’d are among the sponsors of the upcoming free "ad-hoc conference" BarCamp Harrisburg, which is focused on web development and education.  Other BarCamp Harrisburg sponsors include Nuts About Granola,  Mudbrick Creative, and Hauck Interactive

Limited space is still available for BarCamp Harrisburg, which is hosted by Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in PA.  The topic for the free event is  “The Web" and there is a track on education. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2010.

The ad-hoc conference will feature open, participatory events, discussions, and workshops where presentation content is provided by the participants rather than chosen speakers. Seating is limited to 125 people and tickets are online at http://www.barcamphbg.org

Attendees should arrive between 9-10 am, have breakfast, network, and post topics they would like to discuss on a schedule board.   Following a brief kick-off meeting with the entire group, the day will consist of sessions broken down into 45-minute blocks. There will be a break for lunch, followed by afternoon sessions that will run until around 5 pm.

The term BarCamp is a play on the terms foo, bar, and foobar, which are common placeholder/variable names used by hackers and computer programmers. The first BarCamp took place in 2005, and since that time BarCamps have been held in over 350 cities all over the world.

The University is located at 326 Market Street in Harrisburg. Driving and parking information is found online at http://www.harrisburgu.edu/campuslife/directions.php
