Web Developer

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is looking for a Web Developer who will be responsible for front-end development work, primary site edits, site maintenance, and general website development support.  This technical position requires front-end knowledge, as well as basic programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript).  The web developer supports content management, design and functionality development within the university’s Content Management System (WordPress).

Responsibilities

  • Manage content and develop functionality within our Content Management Systems (WordPress)
  • Front-end development work for current websites
  • Manage projects that involve coordinating data and content collection from numerous sources and locations across the university
  • Analyze and solve problems related to university websites
  • Make recommendations for better design and user experience based on sound reasoning and best practices
  • Coordinating and participating in the programming, implementation, testing, and support of web-based projects
  • Debugging and problem solving for a variety of web-based solutions at the university using debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome Inspector, etc.
  • Develop responsive design websites
  • Take an active role in all stages of the web development including concept, design, building, testing and release

 

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in web development, computer science or a digital design related field and 3 years of web design and development experience preferred
  • WordPress development and coding knowledge; experience working with WordPress themes and plugins
  • Knowledge and understanding of the education marketplace preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP
  • Understanding of CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices
  • Understanding of basic UX principles and what makes a great user experience
  • Highly creative and keen eye for visual detail
  • Experience with responsive design and mobile website development
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills with an attention to detail
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise and well-organized manner
  • Experience generating requirements
  • Must be comfortable asking questions to ensure understanding of requirements, problems, goals, etc. of projects
  • Highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects at that same time
  • Ability to work independently
  • Professional, positive, dependable, solid work ethic, dedicated to quality, self-motivated, team-player
