Anna Reeves Corporate Faculty (BTEC)

Having grown up in one of the major cities in Russia, I found myself overwhelmed at the NIH where back in 1992 I was invited to work as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of famous Marshall Nirenberg (who discovered a genetic code). Most striking to me was an international character of the lab and the NIH in general: you wouldn’t find it back home. That experience opened my eyes and showed to me how different and how much alike we all are. This experience had helped me in my following adventures in the biomedical research in a variety of places and settings. But what I found the most fulfilling and gratifying was teaching and mentoring students.

Steven Spielberg once said that “the delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.”

At this point in my life I feel that with my broad experience in research, collaboration, mentoring and teaching I could make a difference, if even a little, to the lives of the students, and I am very grateful to have this opportunity.
