John Quigley, Director of HU’s Center for Environment, Energy, & Economy (E3), will serve as Keynote Speaker at the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium’s Blueprint for the Future 2019 Spring Conference at Penn State University on April 9.

Quigley, also a lecturer in sustainability at Harrisburg University, will present “Our Shared Responsibility to Help Build a Sustainable, Just World.”

As the consortium puts it, “John brings a unique perspective to keynoting a conference focused on higher education’s role in sustainable development solutions, with a broad background, ranging from the private sector to government to his current position in higher education.”

Quigley is the founding Director of the Center for Environment, Energy & Economy and Lecturer in Sustainability at the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. Previously, he was the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, serving under Governor Tom Wolf and of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, serving under Governor Ed Rendell. John is the only person in the history of Pennsylvania to serve as both DCNR and DEP Secretary.

John previously worked in several leadership positions at DCNR, and in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors. He founded a downtown revitalization non-profit organization in and served eight years as the mayor of the City of Hazleton, Pennsylvania; was an instructor in economics at the Hazleton campus of Penn State University; wrote a newspaper column for the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader newspaper; worked as government relations manager with a statewide environmental non-profit organization; held management positions with major manufacturing companies; and operated a small business providing consulting services to state/national/international NGO’s, foundations, state/foreign governments, and private industry.
