HU ranks among top colleges for social mobility

At Harrisburg University, we take pride in providing access to an in-demand STEM education that allows students to fulfill their post-secondary aspirations. And we are pleased to share that HU has been recognized among the top universities in the country for social mobility by US News & World Report’s annual Best Colleges rankings.

The social mobility ranking measures the size of the student population receiving Pell Grants and how well universities performed in graduating those individuals. According to U.S. News, most students who receive Pell Grants come from households with family incomes under $50,000 annually, though most Pell Grant funds go to students with a total family income below $20,000.

Economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college. Some colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants

HU ranked 116th among more than 1,400 universities ranked in the U.S. for social mobility. The ranking was computed by aggregating the two ranking factors assessing graduation rates of Pell-awarded students.

The Social mobility ranking is included in U.S. News & World Report 2021 Best Colleges Rankings which assesses 1,452 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality. The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking is an annual set of rankings of American colleges and universities published by U.S. News & World Report beginning in 1983. They are the most widely quoted of their kind in the United States.
