Major in a Mission: HU Biotech program helps fuel the economy
MAJOR IN A MISSION: “The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology offers innovative academic and research programs in science and technology that respond to local and global needs. The institution fosters a diverse community of learners, provides access and support to students who want to pursue a career in science and technology and supports business creation and economic development.”
At Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, it’s about much more than a degree.
At HU, it’s about majoring in a mission.
It’s about ensuring the University’s core values are embedded in each major so we meet the needs of students while supporting regional and global economics.
This is why Harrisburg University is the region’s top educational, research, and economic development catalyst. It’s also why 92 percent of our students land jobs in their fields or enter graduate school within six months of graduation.
Harrisburg University offers eight undergraduate degrees with a variety of concentrations in most programs. All undergraduates must complete at least two internships before earning their degrees. And often, they land jobs with the same companies they interned with while attending HU.
At Harrisburg University, the recipe for success involves world-class faculty, internships, research, business partnerships, and relevant majors. Below, you will find out exactly why each program is a key ingredient that opens doors for students and the economy.
Biotechnology is the lifeblood of a broad range of industries, including the healthcare, pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural, food development and manufacturing sectors, just to name a few.
There are more than 1,500 biotechnology companies in the U.S. that employ over 1.5 million people, and that figure is growing daily. These same companies look to HU for future-ready employees to fill new positions hitting the market each day.
The Bachelor of Science Biotechnology Degree Program at Harrisburg University introduces students to the foundations of biology, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, and chemistry. Biotech focuses on the manipulation of living organisms, their products, and their processes to further knowledge, improve quality of life and engineer new tools and applications.
At HU, Biotechnology majors are involved with ground-breaking research, including the development of 3D printed skin samples, a process that is poised to revolutionize skin-graft surgical procedures.
When our students arrive at labs, doctor’s offices, pharmaceutical companies, and more, they are armed with invaluable hands-on experience and an insatiable drive to dig deeper.
Students, Employers, the Economy – The World.
Stay tuned as we continue our Major in a Mission series to find out how each HU program mirrors the University’s mission.
