Manheim Twp. students to earn IT certifications via HU partnership
Harrisburg University and Lancaster County’s Manheim Township School District have partnered to provide high school students a clear path to industry recognized IT certifications and in-demand careers beginning this fall.
Via NuPaths, an organization co-founded by Harrisburg University, which offers multiple career pathways for the growing opportunities in IT, MT High School students can enroll in a Digital Marketing course. In addition to earning college credits at Harrisburg University, students who successfully pass the course will earn IT certifications needed to land entry-level careers in the digital marketing field.
The class, in its first year, already is full, and there is a waiting list for students also interested in taking the course.
“We are thrilled to partner with Manheim Township School District to provide students with a program focused on in-demand careers in information technology,” said Harrisburg University President Dr. Eric Darr. “NuPaths helps students develop skill sets that employers are searching for. We hope other school districts follow the lead – and partner with NuPaths to provide a career-focused IT development program for their students.”
This workforce development program provides an opportunity for high school students to earn up to six industry certifications while simultaneously earning high school elective credits and college credits. Upon successful completion of the program, students will possess marketable and employable skills.
The district hopes to partner with other business and industry leaders to expand workforce development and industry certification programs for its students.
“Manheim Township School District is proud to partner with Harrisburg University to offer the NuPaths program to our high school students. This partnership provides even more options and real-world applications for our students to have exposure to career opportunities, earn college credits, and give them the tools and industry certifications they need for employment immediately following graduation,” said MTSD Superintendent Dr. Robin Felty.
Representatives from Harrisburg University and Manheim Township School District will come together to showcase the program to state and local workforce development professionals, business and industry leaders, and local educators during an invitation-only Open House on September 19th. The event will include remarks from HU and MT representatives, in addition to comments from a MT student enrolled in the program. Following the remarks, guests will be invited to tour the partnership classroom and interact with students and teachers involved in the program.
Members of the media are welcome and encouraged to attend the Open House to learn more about and to spotlight this innovative workforce development partnership program.
