In September 1991, Dr. Nushwan Al-Nakash joined Al-Mansour University College, Baghdad-Iraq and worked as a lecturer in the departments of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Communications, and Technology Engineering. In June 2008, Dr. Al-Nakash joined the Department of Computer Science as an assistant professor at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad-Iraq. In August 2015, he joined the CISC program as an assistant professor at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
Teaching and Research Interests:
Dr. Al-Nakash's teaching philosophy had evolved over his 27-year career in education. His reflection on values regarding teaching and learning is to encourage constructive learning, promote enthusiasm for learning, and to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Dr. Al-Nakash believes that this can be achieved by pertaining wide diverse strategies based on necessary educational principles that depend on existing knowledge by generating new knowledge, learning theory, blending issues, instructional planning, and evaluation.
Helping students generate new knowledge skills is essential in implementing and applying strategies that are appropriate for either actual operational and/or formal operational students. This is done through scheduling and planning activities such as short essays where the student’s level may be judged correctly and consequently, instructions may be given. This will help in accurately giving the appropriate leverage to students on the right path. Planning and implementing lessons that clearly categorize their purpose, strategies for successful student engagement, and assessment options to determine student mastery are essential. This will help in tutoring with both clarity and focus in mind.
For assessments, Dr. Al-Nakash believes that several options can be employed to accurately judge course understanding among diverse groups of students. A solid foundation in assessment basics, from alternative types of assessment such as projects, individual performance/diagnostic checks, presentations, etc. as compared to traditional exams and quizzes. Finally, using these principles with eagerness and understanding connects with students. As a result, teaching with clarity, enthusiasm, and sincere keenness effectively impacts students and in due course connecting them to their lifelong education.
