Why would a university of science and technology present a concert series? My answer: why wouldn’t we?

Music is a universal language, bridging divides and resonating with the soul. While some claim indifference to music, the right tune can captivate anyone. (And if you remain unmoved by “All These Things That I’ve Done” by The Killers, you might be made of stone.)

Imagine a world devoid of melody, rhythm, and harmony. It would be dull and incomplete. Music enriches our lives, providing an endless array of emotional and cultural experiences.

Our university is dedicated to fostering community spirit and cultural enrichment in Harrisburg, the capital of our Commonwealth. This is why we present the HU Presents Summer Concert Series.

Since its inception in 2017, Harrisburg University’s Summer Concert Series has aimed to celebrate communities, enhance local culture, and gather thousands for the largest college concert series in America.

Each year, I eagerly anticipate the series, as our staff, faculty, and students collaborate to create something extraordinary. This year, the series doubles as an experiential learning opportunity for students in our Entertainment Technology program, who will work alongside industry leaders like Clair Global to master the art of concert production.

The HU Presents Summer Concert Series significantly boosts the local economy of Harrisburg, PA. By attracting thousands of attendees each year, the series stimulates business for local vendors, restaurants, and hotels. This influx of visitors and their spending injects millions of dollars into the regional economy, supporting jobs and fostering economic growth. The collaboration with local sponsors and businesses further amplifies the positive financial impact on the community.

What defines the HU Presents Summer Concert Series?

First, the talent. We have welcomed phenomenal artists to Harrisburg, including Death Cab for Cutie, Trey Anastasio, The Roots, Nathaniel Rateliff, The National, Cage the Elephant, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Young the Giant, and Portugal. The Man.

This year’s lineup promises to be equally exciting:

Second, the venue. Each year, our team transforms Riverfront Park into a magical riverside concert space, creating an unparalleled atmosphere. The park, the river, and the music combine to offer a unique and immersive experience, complemented by our sponsors, on-site vendors, and food trucks. This event not only unites the community but also boosts the local economy.

We owe a debt of gratitude to our generous sponsors: Dauphin County, Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), and Tröegs Brewery. Their support makes this event possible.

In a world often focused on division and strife, events like our Summer Concert Series remind us of reasons for optimism. Science and technology, driven by human curiosity and ingenuity, offer solutions to many challenges. Similarly, music engages our minds, enhances memory, and fosters neuroplasticity, forming new connections in our brains and, perhaps, soothing our restless spirits.

Join us at Riverfront Park for the HU Presents Summer Concert Series, starting June 21, 2024. With outstanding music and an unforgettable riverside setting, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.
