Students or families may experience special or unusual circumstances which can impact their financial situation, including a change in family circumstances, traumatic events, or reductions in income that may occur while you’re at Harrisburg University. This may result in the need to clarify your situation with the Financial Aid Office, a process known as a “Professional Judgment Review.”

Examples of what may qualify for a Professional Judgment Review include, but are not limited to:

  • A reduction in income due to a change in employment status
  • Large out of pocket medical expenses
  • Ending of child support payments
  • Lump sum distributions of income or other non-recurring income
  • Dependency Overrides Situations.  This is any situation where a dependent student is seeking to be approved for “independent” status.

Again, these examples are not an exhaustive list.  Students and families are encouraged to seek a Professional Judgment Review if they have any circumstances that are impacting them financially.

Please note that a request for Professional Judgment Review consideration does not guarantee the receipt of new or additional financial aid.  Rest assured all requests will be thoroughly reviewed and assessed by our office.

To start the Professional Judgment Review process, contact the Financial Aid Office to schedule an in-person or virtual meeting.  You can contact us by emailing financialaid@harrisburgu.edu, or by calling (717) 901-5115.  Your Financial Aid Counselor will assess your situation during this meeting and advise you on the next steps which could include submission of needed documentation.  Your case will be reviewed by the Professional Judgment Committee, and you will be notified of its decision.  If approved, your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may be updated to reflect changes, and your financial aid updated accordingly.

Please contact our office with any questions or concerns regarding this process.
